Honeybee Cottage Bed and Breakfast is situated approximately halfway between Dublin and Belfast, a beautiful boutique bed and breakfast in the heart of Ireland’s Ancient East. Churchtown is a small countryside hamlet near Ardee, with a local pub and the oldest Church in Co Louth. It’s the perfect base to explore; close to Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth, which are all thirty minutes by car, the home of the famous Carrickmacross Lace is less than fifteen minutes away. Belfast is an hour and a quarter, Dublin is close and can be reached in an hour. Check out our ‘To Do & See’ page above for an idea of the many things to do! We are just a short drive from Oldbridge Museum, the Battle of the Boyne site, the neolithic cairns at Lough Crew, Slane Castle Whiskey Distillery, Trim Castle, the Hill of Tara and historic town of Kells, Co Meath. The area has many wonderful walks and wide sandy beaches to explore!
We are close to wedding venues Darver Castle, Bellingham Castle, Tankardstown and Cabra Castle.
For a fun day trekking on the highest raised bog in the North East of Ireland, Long Acre Alpaca Treks are less than a kilometre away!
Honeybee Cottage is a restored period farmhouse bed and breakfast dating from the 1850’s, which combines old world charm with the comfort of modern convenience. We are located 5km from the town of Ardee in rolling countryside, the perfect place to unwind, relax, go for a walk to along the Bog and then stop in for a drink in the local pub on the way back. We grow our own fruit and vegetables, and you can expect them for breakfast when in season! Richard keeps bees in our garden and he will be delighted to tell you all about them and let you sample our own honey. See our breakfast menu HERE
All our guestrooms have flat-screen TV, Wifi and tea and coffee-making facilities as standard. Bathrooms are equipped with complimentary toiletries, plenty of fluffy towels and haidryers. There is ample free parking, and a garden for the use of guests with breakfast table for al fresco dining in season. A large breakfast room and cosy lounge with a wood-burning stove and window seat is available exclusively for the use of guests. Breakfast is a full Irish breakfast, but vegetarian options are available on request, compote from our homegrown fruits is served in season, and there is alway plenty of honey on the breakfast table! We don’t cater for children or pets, sorry; Honeybee Cottage is a quiet venue aimed at relaxation.
We are Michaela and Richard Tinniswood, and we are here to welcome you to Honeybee Cottage!
Richard is a gardener and a beekeeper, hence the name. He keeps bees in the garden, and produces enough honey to supply the B&B and also to sell, which we do from the gate.
My interests are cooking, baking, home renovation and interior design. I really enjoy running a Bed and Breakfast, but I also work part-time as an interior designer.
